Got the lot

Almost 3 months after "deciding" on the lot we liked in the first phase of Oak Terrace Preserve, the lottery was successful and our name is penciled in on lot 77.

One of the major difference in process in Oak Terrace Preserve is a lottery process for the lot selection in the neighborhood. Part of this process is to help maintain a diversity of locations for any builder's homes. Essentially, they are trying to avoid one builder from grabbing all the "best" lots and from there being a patchwork effect of construction. This patchwork could come from one builder getting a large group of lots right next to each other, where they stand out as different from all the others.

The result of these attempts to avoid patchiness and undo preference, is the difficulty of a potential owner from walking in and buying up a lot. The intermediate result is a little frustrating but I think once the neighborhood is done, the result will be worth the frustration.

So even though we picked a lot that was available to the lottery and it was almost 3 months ago, we had a couple backup options, just in case. Today, the lottery occurred and Verdi emailed us to let us know they were able to get our preferred lot. We're quite pleased.
